Survival of the fish pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida in seawater.

چکیده
Survival of Aeromonas salmonicida in natural (non-sterile) seawater, as determined from colony counts on marine agar, was found to be influenced by the presence of potentially inhibitory organisms, i.e., Acinetobacter, Aeromonas hydrophila, Chromobacterium, Escherichia coli, Flavobacterium and Pseudomonas, and their metabolites. Yet, samples, thought to be devoid of culturable A. salmonicida, were found to contain cells, which were filterable through 0.22 and 0.45 microns Millipore Millex porosity filters, and were recoverable on a specialised medium for L-forms, i.e. L-F medium.

Survival and Activity of lux-Marked Aeromonas salmonicida in Seawater.
The fish pathogen Aeromonas salmonicida was chromosomally marked with genes encoding bacterial luciferase, luxAB, isolated from Vibrio fischeri, resulting in constitutive luciferase production. During exponential growth in liquid batch culture, luminescence was directly proportional to biomass concentration, and luminometry provided a lower detection limit of approximately 10(sup3) cells ml(sup...
متن کاملEPIDEMIOLOGICAL ASPECTS OF Aeromonas salmonicida IN THE MARINE ENVIRONMENT
The epidemiology of Aeromonas salmonicida subsp. salmonicida in the marine environment was investigated. Nutrient resuscitation and infectivity studies did not support a previous claim of dormancy in A. salmonicida and validated the use of colony-forming units (cfu) in survival studies. Survival of A. salmonicida in seawater was assessed and found to be of short duration «10 days). Survival of ...
متن کاملProtection against Atypical Aeromonas salmonicida Infection in Carp (Cyprinus carpio L.) by Oral Administration of Probiotic Bacterial Culture
Introduction Atypical Aeromonas salmonicida is a fish pathogen that causes several diseases in freshwater fish such as goldfish (Carassius auratus L.) (6) and eel (Anguilla japonica) (2), and also seawater fish (5). Since 1996, A. salmonicida infection characterized by the formation of ulcers on the body surface and fins (ulcer disease) has become prevalent in colored carp (Cyprinus carpio koi ...
متن کاملDetection of Aeromonas salmonicida in wild Atlantic salmon using a specific DNA probe test
The presence of Aeromonas salrnonicida, the etiological agent of furunculosis, was examined using polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and DNA probe methodology in wild Atlantic salmon Salmo salar taken from 3 Irish river systems Blood samples from 61 individual fish were examined and the presence of pathogen was determined in 87% of the fish examined. However, the level of pathogen was extremely lo...
